Faster Together

Within 48 weeks, the MetalFAB1 was up and running

After a thorough selection process by Additive Industries, MTA was one of the three proud partners. All partners were determined to meet the highly ambitious lead time of 48 weeks. Collaboration with fellow partners in the high-tech industry has become a hallmark of the Eindhoven region. Here too, it was the foundation for success.

The Company

Additive Industries is a manufacturer of 3D metal printers for high-quality metal parts. The company accelerates industrial additive manufacturing of high-end metal components through a modular, end-to-end laser powder bed fusion system (MetalFAB1 system) and a seamlessly integrated information platform (Additive World Platform).

the Challenge

The challenge in 2014 was to engineer and produce the MetalFAB1 within a short timeframe.

After a thorough selection process of development and production partners by Additive Industries, MTA was one of the three proud partners. All partners were determined to meet the highly ambitious lead time of 48 weeks.

The approach

In addition to managing the ambitious schedule, the team also took on the technological challenge of developing the first truly industrial 3D metal printing system. Thanks to the tremendous team effort from all partners, Additive Industries was able to successfully launch the MetalFAB1 at FormNext 2015.

The Solution

The foundation of this success is the collaboration within the Brainport region. Working together with fellow partners in the high-tech industry has become a hallmark of the Eindhoven region. Key factors in this success include trust, an agile project organization, and short communication lines. These are also our core values, deeply embedded in our organization. This close alignment with the project and partners contributed to the overall success.

"The foundation for making this a successful project is the 'Brainport Ecosystem' around Eindhoven."

The result

  • SHORT TIME-TO-MARKET

  • LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT OWNERSHIP

  • KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE NETWORK

Delivering an innovative system after just 48 weeks demonstrates that early collaboration with suppliers pays off in achieving a short time-to-market.

The lifecycle of a product begins in the development phase. By participating from day one, MTA was given the opportunity to take ownership of the lifecycle of the Additive Industries modules.
